A 34-year-old man was hospitalized after crashing his motorcycle while fleeing State Troopers on Saturday night.

Authorities say the incident began just after 9:20 p.m. on Sept. 28, when a State Trooper attempted to stop the motorcyclist near I-35 and U.S. Highway 8 in Forest Lake.

Travis Jay Fredrickson, of Hibbing, fled at a high rate of speed, prompting a State Patrol aircraft to take over surveillance while ground units ended their pursuit, the Patrol said.

Fredrickson continued at a high speed, with only the aircraft tracking, until he collided with a 2021 Toyota Highlander near I-35E and Roselawn Avenue in Maplewood. He was transported to Regions Hospital with life-threatening injuries, authorities updated late Sunday afternoon.

Three people inside the Highlander had non-life-threatening injuries and did not require hospitalization.

The crash remains under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol.
