Fravel’s trial was moved to the Blue Earth County Courthouse from the Winona County Courthouse after Fravel’s attorney argued that widespread publicity could affect the verdict during trial.
Fravel's conviction comes after months of investigation and widespread searches following Kingsbury’s disappearance in March 2023. The 26-year-old mother was last seen dropping her children off with Fravel on March 31 before vanishing. Kingsbury's family reported her missing after she failed to show up for work and didn’t return their phone calls. In the weeks that followed, extensive searches were conducted across southern Minnesota in an effort to find her.

The search concluded on June 7, when Kingsbury’s remains were found wrapped in duct tape and concealed off a rural roadway in Mabel, Minn. Autopsy reports confirmed signs of blunt force trauma and asphyxiation, suggesting foul play. Based on this evidence, authorities charged Fravel with two counts of second-degree murder.

During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence linking Fravel to Kingsbury’s disappearance, including digital tracking information and witness statements about his behavior before and after she went missing.
Prosecutors argued Fravel had a history of controlling behavior and had threatened Kingsbury in the past. Fravel's defense countered that the evidence was circumstantial, but ultimately, the jury found the prosecution’s case compelling.
Kingsbury’s family was present in court throughout the trial and expressed relief at the guilty verdict. Fravel's sentencing is scheduled for later this month.
