New Brighton firefighters and the Ramsey County Water Patrol unit were dispatched to Long Lake at about 12:10 p.m. on a report of a body in the water.

Once on scene, they found a 77-year-old man from New Brighton who had been pulled to shore by an off-duty firefighter.

Allina paramedics attempted life-saving measures on the man, but he was pronounced dead shortly after being pulled to the shore.

Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Steve Linders said the man’s body was found approximately 30 feet from shore in roughly four and a half feet of water.

Linders says it appears the man was fishing, had walked out into the lake and was unable to make it back to shore.

The man's name has not been released.
