The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office says deputies have arrested the husband of a woman who was found dead along a roadway in Fort Ripley Township last month.

Authorities say a passerby called police on June 25, reporting they thought there may have been a body lying just off the roadway near the intersection of Legend Lane & Killian Road in Fort Ripley Township. Authorities arrived and confirmed the woman was deceased.

The woman, identified as Angela Marie McClelland, 49, of Fort Ripley, was believed to have been struck by a vehicle.

Tony James McClelland, 47, of Fort Ripley, was arrested by deputies Monday evening and is being held on probable cause 2nd-degree murder and criminal vehicular homicide.

Police say investigators from the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Minnesota State Patrol developed leads, conducted interviews and gathered enough evidence over the past two weeks to make the arrest.

Formal charges are expected to be filed Tuesday or Wednesday.
