Man Apprehended After Firing Shots at Officers During Hours-long Standoff South of Hastings

The suspect apprehended overnight after an armed standoff that lasted several hours south of Hastings is identified in booking records as Brian Lusk, 38, being held on suspicion of 2nd-degree assault and 1st-degree damage to property.

Lusk was detained just after 3 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22.

According to initial radio dispatches, Lusk fired up to several dozen rounds while holed up in an apartment building late Tuesday into early Wednesday morning, some of the gunfire apparently directed at officers.

Official charging documents are not yet available. There do not appear to have been any injuries from the incident.

Authorities have confirmed that Lusk was taken into custody shortly after 3 a.m. when he exited his apartment building while armed with a rifle. SWAT team members moved in immediately and he was arrested, according to a media release from the Dakota County Sheriff's Office. Further information has not yet been released.
