Man Charged in Fatal St. Louis Park Pedestrian Crash

A 38-year-old man now faces felony charges after a crash in St. Louis Park Dec. 30 left one pedestrian dead and another critically injured.

Jeremy Ryan Sherman, of St. Louis Park, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol and striking two people in a crosswalk.

Sherman is charged with criminal vehicular homicide and criminal vehicular operation, both felonies, in relation to the crash.

Officers were dispatched at approximately 6:00 p.m. to the area near 7500 Excelsior Blvd. where witnesses reported a driver had struck two pedestrians. Emergency responders found one victim unresponsive and not breathing. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Another victim suffered severe head injuries and remains hospitalized.

Witnesses told police the vehicle, driven by Sherman, was traveling at a high speed and did not appear to slow or brake before striking the victims in the crosswalk. Sherman reportedly admitted to being "freaked out" but denied consuming alcohol.

Field sobriety tests conducted at the scene indicated impairment. Sherman refused a preliminary breath test but was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. A blood sample was later obtained under warrant for analysis. Sherman remains in custody on a $500,000 bond. He is expected to make an initial court appearance Thursday afternoon.
