A Burnsville man held in jail since a fatal shooting outside an Eagan gas station Saturday night has now been formally charged with 2nd-degree murder. Sakaria Osman Ahmed, 31, is accused of fatally shooting Faisal A. Abukar, 33, just before 7 p.m. on Dec. 18.

According to a criminal complaint filed Tuesday, Ahmed was among a group outside the Marathon gas station at 1969 Silver Bell Rd. when a dispute erupted and a man was punched in the face, then thrown to the ground by an unidentified suspect.

Ahmed—who arrived in a vehicle and parked in the gas station lot with the unidentified suspect—allegedly exited the vehicle and walked to the group of three other men who were fighting between two vehicles. He allegedly shot Abukar once in the hea, and got back in the car with the unidentified suspect.

According to the documents, investigators believe Ahmed and the unidentified suspect parked outside the Domino’s nearby, then drove out of the parking lot before crashing the vehicle within about 100 yards.

Witnesses told police they saw the driver, later identified as Ahmed, exit the vehicle and run toward the Twin Cities Premium Outlets mall to the southwest with a gun in his hand. Officers quickly located Ahmed near a store in the mall and found a loaded 9mm handgun in his pocket.

Investigators found a spent bullet casing labeled “GFL 9mm Luger” near the victim’s body, in the vehicle Ahmed is accused of crashing and also from the chamber of the gun in his pocket.

The unidentified suspect accused of punching the other victim in the gas station lot and driving from the scene with Ahmed has not yet been located.

Ahmed has prior convictions for 5th-degree misdemeanor assault in Scott County from 2013.

Ahmed is charged with intentional 2nd-degree murder, which carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.
