Man Convicted of Murder in Eagan Fatal Shooting
A Dakota County jury has found a Burnsville man guilty of 2nd-degree murder for fatally shooting a man outside an Eagan gas station in December 2021.
According to the criminal complaint, Eagan police officers were dispatched to the Marathon gas station at 1969 Silver Bell Rd. just before 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18 for reports of a man on the ground who was shot and possibly dead. At the same time, officers were notified of a crash about 100 yards from the gas station with someone running on foot from the area.

Officers arrived at the gas station and found the victim Faisal Abukar, 33, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head. Abukar was transported to the hospital and later pronounced deceased.
A person who was with Abukar told police they drove to the gas station to meet up with individuals who were unknown to them. A fight broke out and shortly after, the driver of the second vehicle got out and shot Abukar once in the head. The witness then ran from the scene and hid by a building, but saw the second vehicle leave the parking lot and crash.

The driver, Sakaria Osman Ahmed, 32, of Burnsville, fled on foot but was taken into custody by officers within minutes. When officers took Ahmed into custody, he was in possession of a handgun matching the shell casing found near Abukar. The jury deliberated for approximately 11 hours before returning a guilty verdict on Wednesday, May 18, 2023. A sentencing date for Ahmed has not been set.
Ahmed faces up to 40 years in prison at sentencing.
