Man Critically Injured After UTV Struck By Pick-Up Truck

The State Patrol says a 22-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries after he crossed Highway 169 on a UTV and was struck by a pickup truck near Vernon Center in Blue Earth County on Thursday afternoon.

State Troopers were called to the intersection of Highway 169 and County Road 31 in Vernon Center Township around 3:15 p.m.

Troopers say the UTV, driven by 22-year-old Carter Jacob Klause, of Garden City, was traveling eastbound on County Road 31 when it collided with a Ram 1500 pickup truck that was traveling northbound on Highway 169.

Klause suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash and was flown by helicopter to North Memorial Hospital. The driver of the pickup truck was uninjured. The State Patrol says Klause was under the influence of alcohol and it’s unknown if he had a seatbelt on.

Highway 169 remained closed until the early evening as troopers investigated the crash.
