Police Chief Brian Wicke says officers arrived on the scene and found an adult male with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Police and South Metro Fire personnel provided emergency medical aid to the victim. He was stabilized at the scene before being transported by ambulance to a local hospital. The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time and authorities have not yet provided an update on his condition.
Chief Wicke said that the initial investigation indicates the shooting was not a random act and preliminary info suggests the suspect and the victim knew each other, though the nature of their relationship has not been disclosed. “While the suspect is not in custody, we do not have information to support an ongoing risk to the public,” Wicke said.
No arrests have been made and authorities are actively searching for the suspect. Investigators are working to gather evidence and identify the suspect. SSPPD is being supported in the investigation by the West Saint Paul Police Department and the Dakota County Drug Task Force/Violent Offender Task Force.
The area surrounding the scene was temporarily closed off as investigators worked to collect evidence and interview witnesses. A section of Southview Boulevard was blocked off for several hours while police searched the area and canvassed nearby businesses and residences for video evidence. Anyone with information related to the shooting should call police.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim and it remains unclear what may have led to the shooting. While the investigation is ongoing, police have declined to comment on specific details, citing the active nature of the case.
