Minneapolis Suspect Arrested After Shooting Spree Leaves 2 Dead, 2 Injured

Minneapolis police have arrested a man suspected of being involved in three shootings that left two people dead and two others injured.
According to Police Chief Brian O'Hara, the arrest was made following a coordinated effort by officers after the suspect allegedly opened fire near two homeless encampments earlier in the day.

The suspect, who has not been identified yet, was taken into custody around 7:35 p.m. near the intersection of 26th Street East and 17th Avenue South, roughly 15 minutes after officers were dispatched to a shooting in the 2300 block of 17th Avenue South. A male victim in that incident sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Hennepin Healthcare for treatment.
Earlier that afternoon, at approximately 4:20 p.m., police responded to another shooting in the 2500 block of Bloomington Avenue South, where a man in his 30s was found critically injured in an alley. Despite officers' efforts to save him, the man died at the scene. Authorities say the victim was standing near a garage when an individual approached him and shot him in the head. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office will release the victim's identity and the official cause of death.
These incidents occurred just hours after another homicide earlier in the day. At around 4:40 a.m., police were called to the 2500 block of 17th Avenue South, where they found two men who had been shot. One man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other victim, another man in his 30s, was rushed to Hennepin Healthcare with serious injuries. The shootings took place near a homeless encampment and investigators are still working to establish a motive..
"I'm incredibly proud of the work our team did today in locating and apprehending a suspect believed to be responsible for multiple shootings. Gun violence continues to be a significant challenge, and we remain committed to addressing it with urgency,” O’Hara said.
No motive has been determined and the investigation remains ongoing.
