Man Suspected of DUI Charged After Wrong-Way Crash Injured 3

A 33-year-old Rosemount man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges following a wrong-way crash early Sunday on Interstate 35W in Minneapolis.

Michael Anthony Wallace is charged with one count of criminal vehicular operation causing great bodily harm and two counts of criminal vehicular operation causing bodily harm.

The crash, reported at approximately 1:15 a.m. on Dec. 15, involved Wallace’s Dodge Durango and a Toyota Camry, authorities said.

According to the criminal complaint, troopers responded to reports of a vehicle traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-35W near Diamond Lake Road and Highway 62.

As troopers approached the area, they saw the Dodge Durango traveling at high speed before it struck the Camry head-on. Wallace reportedly fled the scene on foot but was detained by troopers a short distance away near Portland Avenue. Troopers noted an odor of alcohol, and Wallace admitted to drinking earlier that night.

As a result of the crash, three people were injured and required treatment at a hospital.

An adult male passenger in the Camry suffered a broken leg, internal bleeding, and several facial bone fractures.

The driver of the Camry suffered several cuts to his hand. A female passenger in the Durango suffered multiple abrasions to her leg and were bleeding significantly.

Wallace was transported to a hospital where a blood sample was collected. Wallace has two prior DWI convictions from 2022 and 2023 and was on probation at the time of the crash. He remains in custody with bail set at $75,000.
