A two-vehicle crash on I-35 just south of Hinckley, Minn., left one person dead and two others seriously injured just after 4 p.m. Friday, May 14.

The driver who authorities say caused the crash was convicted of fleeing police and motor vehicle theft in September 2020.

According to a preliminary investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol, Tabitha Sue Sigler, 21, was driving a Mitsubishi Endeavor southbound on I-35 when she crossed the median and struck a Kia Sportage that was in the northbound lanes.

David Thomas Greiner, 45, from Garfield, Minn., was driving the Kia Sportage and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Sigler, of Cambridge, Minn., and a 36-year-old male passenger of St. Paul were transported by medical helicopters to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with serious head injuries that were believed to be life-threatening. Updates on their conditions are not yet available.

Sigler was convicted of theft of a motor vehicle and fleeing police in a motor vehicle in September of 2020. In that incident in April of 2019, officers located a stolen vehicle in South Saint Paul and attempted to make a traffic stop. Sigler fled onto I-494, and at one point reached speeds of over 120 MPH. According to court documents, Sigler admitted to using heroin and methamphetamine the morning before stealing the vehicle. She was sentenced to more than a year in jail after those convictions, but received credit for time already served.
