Girl Critically Injured in North Minneapolis Shooting

UPDATE: The girl injured in this incident was later identified as Trinity Ottoson-Smith, 9. She was rushed to the hospital, where she remained in critical condition for nearly two weeks. She died there in the late afternoon of May 27. - Police announced an arrest in this case on Feb. 23, 2022

A young girl under the age of 10 was struck by errant gunfire while jumping on a trampoline outside a north Minneapolis residence Saturday evening. She was in “very critical condition” after an officer rushed her to a nearby hospital in a squad car, police said.

Officers were called to the 2200 block of Illion Ave. N. just after 8:30 p.m. after reports of gunfire heard. Emergency dispatch audio reveals the first officer on scene immediately transported the girl in his squad car to North Memorial Medical Center in nearby Robbinsdale due to the severity of her injuries. She was reportedly struck in the head by a bullet and was critically injured.

Police said a red Ford Fusion was seen speeding away southbound in an alley after the shooting, occupied by multiple juvenile black males, but further suspect descriptions were not available and no arrests have been announced.
