Saint Cloud Man Killed in Lake Street Minneapolis Shooting Identified
The Saint Cloud man who was fatally shot outside a south Minneapolis gas station after allegedly using a racial slur during an argument has been identified by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.
Ryan Kane Decker, 46, was shot just before midnight Wednesday, March 24, outside the Stop N Shop store at 1700 E. Lake St. Officers found him lying in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to the head and he died a short time later at the hospital.
The man who is accused of pulling the trigger, Chaz Eric Stubblefield, 33, of Minneapolis, remains jailed and charged with 2nd-degree murder.
According to documents filed in court, the men got into an argument inside the store after Decker allegedly brushed against Stubblefield while in line. A verbal argument ensued, which turned physical, with Stubblefield alleging that Decker called him the ‘n-word’ twice before Stubblefield shot the man, the documents say.
Decker was in town to help a friend move, she later told investigators, and they had stopped at the gas station for a soda that night. She said that Decker told Stubblefield that he never said the word. according to the documents.
Decker’s death is Minneapolis’ 16th homicide of 2021.
