Williams was apprehended without incident, police said, and neighboring agencies assisted with the operation.
Around 11:30 a.m. Friday, Mar. 4, police found Regis A. Jones, 31, of Saint Paul, lying in the back yard of a residence in the city’s Frogtown neighborhood. He was unresponsive and medics later pronounced him dead at the scene from a gunshot wound.
Jones’ death is the 10th homicide in the city so far this year.
According to court records, Williams’ lengthy criminal history includes prior convictions for 1st-degree aggravated robbery and 2nd-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, both felonies. He also has convictions for domestic assault and fleeing police.
Williams was also under “intensive supervised release” for a prior conviction, according to a Department of Corrections record, with his probation set to expire in June 2023.
Formal charges against Williams were filed Tuesday and he remains in custody.
