Thieves Flee After Trying to Steal ATM in Morrison County

Authorities are searching for suspects involved in an attempted ATM theft late Sunday night in Pierz, Minn.

The incident occurred around 11:16 p.m. at Farmers & Merchants State Bank on Main Street, where individuals attempted to steal an ATM using a stolen truck.

According to the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office, the suspects attached a chain to the machine and pulled it from its foundation but fled before they could load it into a vehicle. Investigators say the suspects abandoned the stolen truck—originally taken from Fergus Falls—and escaped in a newer model, light-colored SUV.

Deputies quickly responded, establishing a perimeter and searching the area with assistance from a K9 unit and a Minnesota State Patrol aircraft. Despite the widespread search, the suspects were not located.

Law enforcement is investigating whether this incident is connected to similar ATM theft attempts reported in Crookston and Pelican Rapids within the past week. Authorities believe at least three individuals were involved: two working to remove the ATM while a third waited in the getaway vehicle.

The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office has released images of the suspect SUV and two individuals dressed in black attempting the theft. Officials are asking Pierz residents with security cameras to review footage from 10:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Sunday for any suspicious activity.

Anyone with info is urged to contact the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office at 320-632-9233.
