Three Dead in Head-On Crash Near Paynesville

The Minnesota State Patrol says three people are dead after a fiery two-vehicle crash Sunday morning near Paynesville in Kandiyohi County.

According to the State Patrol, a 2007 BMW was traveling southbound on County Road 2 while a 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan was traveling northbound near 240th Avenue Northeast when they collided around 10:48 a.m. Sunday, June 18. The State Patrol says road conditions were wet at the time and there was road construction in the area.

Emergency crews reported a vehicle started on fire after the crash and a LifeLink helicopter was initially requested for transport but was later canceled.

The driver and only occupant of the BMW died, while the driver and a passenger of the Dodge also died. All three were said to be wearing seatbelts and it’s unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The names of the victims are expected to be released at a later time.
