3 Hurt After Nightclub Shooting in Downtown Minneapolis

Minneapolis police say three people were injured and one person was arrested after a chaotic shooting SATURDAY MORNING at Tantrum Nightclub in Downtown Minneapolis.

At approximately 1:47 a.m., officers assigned to the Late Night Safety Plan in the First Precinct were called to the 100 block of 4th Street North on reports of a person with a gun.

As officers arrived, gunfire erupted inside the nightclub. Police located a man inside who had been shot and transported him to Hennepin Healthcare with non-life-threatening injuries.

While officers were responding, additional shots were fired in a surface parking lot next to Tantrum. Officers saw a vehicle driving recklessly through the lot and stopped it. A man was arrested after officers recovered a firearm from the vehicle.

Minutes later, gunfire was reported again. Police learned two more gunshot victims had been dropped off at Hennepin Healthcare—one man and one juvenile male, both with non-life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary information indicates the incident began with a physical altercation inside the nightclub, where the initial shots were fired. As patrons fled outside, additional gunfire broke out in the parking lot.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara credited the swift response of officers for preventing further violence. “This shows why we need sufficient numbers of officers available at bar close in Downtown, Dinkytown, and Uptown—without depleting the cops patrolling our neighborhoods,” he said. “Thanks to the bravery and professionalism of our cops, a man was arrested after discharging a firearm, and a bad situation was interrupted before it got even worse.”

Investigators are working to piece together the events of the night and determine the role of the arrested man. No additional suspects have been identified.
