Winona Man Critical After Apartment Shooting

Winona police are investigating a shooting early Thursday morning at an apartment building.

Around 4:22 a.m. on Oct. 17, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of West 10th Street after reports of gunfire.

They found a 35-year-old Winona man with a gunshot wound who was then immediately transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition, Winona police said. His identity has not yet been released.

A second man, of Winona, was taken into custody at the scene for questioning. Police have not disclosed whether any charges will be filed, if the man is considered a suspect or if the two men knew each other. Investigators are interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence to determine the circumstances that led up to the shooting.

Despite the lack of details initially released, authorities believe the incident was isolated and said there’s no ongoing threat to the community.

UPDATE | The suspect has been identified as 27-year-old Cole Robert Cameron.
