Woman Struck, Killed By Rice County Sheriff's Deputy

The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating after a woman was killed after being struck in the roadway by a Rice County Sheriff’s squad early Saturday morning.

According to the State Patrol, the Rice County deputy was driving without lights or sirens going eastbound on Highway 60 in Morristown when the officer struck the person suspected of walking in the roadway.

Despite receiving immediate medical assistance, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The victim has been identified as 52-year-old Stephanie Wesley of Faribault, and the deputy was identified as 46-year-old Trevor Peterson.

In another incident in December 2021, a Wright County deputy struck and killed a man in his driveway while responding to a medical call at the residence.
