Student Killed, Another Critical After Shooting Outside Richfield School
One student died and another was critically injured after a shooting outside a Richfield school shortly after noon on Tuesday. The suspects fled the scene immediately after the incident and were later arrested after two search warrants were served in Minneapolis.
Richfield police confirm they were dispatched at 12:07 p.m. to South Education Center, 7450 Penn Ave. S., where they found two students who were reportedly shot while on a sidewalk near the front entrance of the school.
Police said in a media conference around 2:30 p.m. that the suspect fled the scene of the shooting immediately after. Initial radio dispatches indicated the suspect was one of two males who fled in a tan SUV.
UPDATE: Murder Charges Filed Against 2 Suspects
One of the victims, a male of unknown age, was transported to the hospital, where he later died. The other victim was in critical condition Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted with a wide perimeter in the area after the incident, including agents with the ATF and FBI.
Richfield police said in an updated media release that two suspects were arrested after search warrants were conducted on two separate locations in Minneapolis shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday. A handgun was recovered from one of the locations and police say no other suspects are sought.
According to online booking reports published by Hennepin County, 19-year-old Alfredo Rosario Solis and 18-year-old Fernando Valdez Alvarez were booked into jail and were being held on probable cause murder.
Family and friends later identified the student killed as Jahmari Rice, 15.
