A convicted felon tried to hide a gun with an extended magazine when officers arrived at a Saint Paul apartment building and it went off during his arrest, prosecutors say. The bullet grazed the man’s leg, according to a criminal complaint filed this week.
On Thursday, Bemidji police received information that the suspects were in the area. Officers began working with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to monitor several locations known to the suspects.
Officers arrived to find an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot. He was transported to a nearby hospital, then flown to a trauma center via medical helicopter, where he was last listed in critical condition.
A male resident managed to exit the mobile home before responders arrived and told them that two women remained inside. Firefighters entered the burning residence and located both women, carrying them out and beginning life-saving efforts.
