1 Dead After Dump Truck Crash in Olmsted County

A collision involving a dump truck and a pickup on Highway 63 in Farmington Township left a 30-year-old man dead Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities say the crash happened around 2:20 p.m. Jan. 21 when a northbound 2014 Ford F150 and a southbound 2019 Kenworth dump truck collided just south of milepost 48.

The Minnesota State Patrol said road conditions were dry at the time of the incident and both drivers were wearing seat belts.

The crash prompted a multi-agency response, including the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, Elgin Fire Department, Rochester Fire Department and Mayo Ambulance.

The driver of the F150, identified as 30-year-old Andrew Jay Johnson, of Zumbro Falls, died at the scene. The dump truck driver, 80-year-old Gerald Henry Pulver, of Rochester, was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Alcohol or other substance use was not detected for Pulver, though a State Patrol incident report says it’s “unknown” if alcohol or impairment was suspected for Johnson. Investigators have not provided additional information about the circumstances leading up to the crash.
