1 Dead, At Least 6 Injured in String of Minneapolis Shootings
Police are investigating after a string of shootings Friday afternoon into early Saturday morning left one person dead and at least six others wounded in Minneapolis.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting on the 2700 block of 15th Ave. S. just before 11:30 p.m. on Friday. When they arrived, police found an adult male with a gunshot wound inside the residence. The man was later pronounced deceased by paramedics.
Early info indicates that there was an “altercation” between the victim and another male known to the victim which then escalated into gunfire, police said.
Homicide investigators and forensic scientists responded to the scene to collect evidence and begin their investigation.
Police report that no arrests have been made in connection to the fatal shooting as of midday Saturday.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the victim’s name along with the cause and nature of his death at a later time.
According to The Extra Alarm Association of the Twin Cities, firefighters were called to the same residence early Saturday morning, reporting finding flames from the two-story home. The cause of the blaze is unknown.
All residents were out of the home at the time, and firefighters had the bulk of the blaze extinguished from the exterior by around 7:30 a.m.
Police report this is the 72nd death investigated as a homicide by the Minneapolis Police Department so far this year. It’s currently unknown how the fire may be related to the earlier shooting.
At least six others were hit by gunfire in three other shootings in Minneapolis on Friday and early Saturday morning.
According to a police spokesperson, just after 3 p.m., police responded to the 2200 block of E. Lake St. after a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a teenage male, an adult male, and an adult female, all suffering from potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds. Paramedics brought the victims to Hennepin Healthcare.
Preliminary information indicates that the shots were fired from an occupant of a moving vehicle, which fled after the shooting.
Police are unsure at this time if the three victims are connected in any way. Dozens of spent bullet casings were recovered at the scene. (Photo at top)
No arrests have been made and police are still investigating.
Just before 9 p.m., police officers responded to a reported shooting on the 800 block of Portland Ave. Officers found an adult male with a potentially life-threatening gunshot wound. The injured victim was transported by paramedics to Hennepin Healthcare.
Police say it’s still unknown what transpired before the shooting. Initial dispatched audio reviewed my MN CRIME suggests the victim may have been carjacked, with a male and female suspect fleeing in the stolen blue Toyota Corolla. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
Then around 1:23 a.m., police officers reported finding two teenage victims with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds on the 400 block of Hennepin Ave. Police say that a physical altercation between several individuals escalated into gunfire.
Police say no arrests have been made and the investigation is continuing.
