12-year-old Boy Shot, Killed in North Minneapolis
Minneapolis police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old boy near the intersection of Aldrich Ave. N. & 8th Ave. N. late Wednesday afternoon. Police arrived and found the boy with a gunshot wound to the chest, initial EMS dispatches detail, and he was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Police said initial information indicates a verbal disagreement led to the shooting just after 3:40 p.m. The boy was transported in critical condition but died of his injuries, authorities confirmed early Wednesday evening. MPD said strong headway is being made in the case but anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
Family members identified the boy killed as London Michael Bean.
According to initial dispatch audio reviewed by MN CRIME, a possible suspect vehicle was a smaller white SUV, possibly a Nissan Pathfinder, MN plate GCG-747, and the shooter was described as a black male with a thin build around 17 years old, 5'9", wearing black pants, a black "graffiti" mask and had a black handgun with a lighter-colored extended magazine.
Officers were tracking with K9 in the area but the search was unsuccessful and there is no word yet if any suspects have been apprehended. The shooting is the 62nd confirmed homicide in the city this year.
