A man in his 20s is dead after being found lying in the street with a stab wound Friday night near the intersection of 7th St. E. & White Bear Ave. on Saint Paul’s east side. Officers found the man shortly after 9 p.m. and he was transported to the hospital with critical injuries that proved to be fatal. He was pronounced dead sometime overnight.

Initial law enforcement radio dispatches indicated the suspect stabbed the victim in the back and fled on foot, described as a black male wearing a black hoodie and black pants, with a skinny build, around 6’, with short dreads. Officers tracked with K9 and set a wide perimeter in the suspect search, but it was unsuccessful and no arrests had been made as of Saturday morning.

The Saint Paul Police Department said homicide investigators are interviewing witnesses to determine what led up to the fatal stabbing. Police say the motive for the attack is not yet clear. Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at 651-266-5650.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy and officially identify the victim in the coming days. This is the 23rd confirmed homicide of the year in Saint Paul.
