Brooklyn Park Man Enters Guilty Plea for Murder at Family Gathering
A Brooklyn Park man has pled guilty to second-degree murder after fatally shooting another man during a family celebration.
Lue Chang, 32, admitted to the September 21, 2024, shooting and, under a plea agreement, will serve 306 months in prison.
Police were dispatched to the 8400 block of Adair Avenue North at 6:34 p.m. after reports of gunfire. Officers arrived to find an adult male victim lying in the backyard with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to North Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses told police the incident occurred during a family event to celebrate a birth. Chang reportedly confronted the victim, telling him, “Today you’re going to die,” before pulling a handgun and firing. Surveillance footage confirmed the account, showing Chang shooting the unarmed victim, including a final shot as the victim crawled away. A two-year-old child was standing near the victim during the shooting, and several other children and adults were present.
