Police say a man is dead after a short pursuit ended in a fatal crash early Sunday morning in West St. Paul, following a domestic disturbance call.

At about 1:43 a.m. on September 8, 2024, officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance involving a 35-year-old male who was threatening residents and damaging property inside a home.

The female caller told dispatchers the man had consumed a large amount of alcohol and used drugs. Dispatchers could hear yelling and the sound of items being thrown in the background.

Officers later spotted the suspect’s vehicle traveling eastbound on Moreland Avenue and attempted to stop it to arrest the driver for domestic assault and other charges. However, the driver fled, leading officers on a brief pursuit. Just a few blocks after the chase began, the vehicle crossed Robert Street, where the driver lost control, struck a power pole, and collided with two unoccupied vehicles in a nearby driveway at Moreland Avenue and Kruse Street.

Officers arrived at the crash site and found the driver was ejected from the vehicle and unresponsive. Officers began providing CPR, but despite lifesaving measures, paramedics determined the driver was deceased.

The Mendota Heights Police Department and the Minnesota State Patrol are investigating the incident.

The identity of the driver has not yet been released.
