A nearly five year prison sentence was stayed, meaning she won’t have to serve any time as long as she complies with the terms of her probation.
Burnsville Man Arrested for Murdering Mother, Disposing of Body Parts
A Burnsville man is charged with murder after admitting to killing his mother, dismembering her and disposing body parts in multiple locations. Troy Michael Mitteness, 56, of Burnsville, is charged with 2nd-degree murder in the death of his mother, Sandra Viola Mitteness. The charges come after detectives began investigating reports of mail theft in June, which led authorities to a murder confession.
Woman Charged in Fatal South St. Paul Crash
A 53-year-old woman faces charges after allegedly causing a head-on crash in South Saint Paul that killed her ex-husband and injured two others Monday afternoon. The Minnesota State Patrol says a 2006 BMW sedan driven by 29-year-old Gabriel Christopher Lilja, of Saint Paul, was traveling north on Highway 52 near 190th Street in Vermillion Township around 11:45 a.m. when he crossed over into the southbound lanes and struck a dump truck head-on.
Burnsville Felon Accused of Selling 3D-Printed Gun Switches
According to court documents, in March 2023, federal agents received information that Benjamin Jehle Zwack, 29, an employee at a Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) business, was selling 3D-printed gun conversion devices, commonly known as “switches” or “auto sears.” These devices enable firearms to be fired as a fully automatic weapon by a single function of the trigger and qualify as “machineguns” under federal law.
2 Sentenced for 2022 Inver Grove Heights Homicide
A man and woman who earlier pleaded guilty to 2nd-degree murder have both now been sentenced to more than 30 years in prison for their roles in a Dakota County homicide. Fotini Anest West, 26, and Logan David Slack, 25, were ordered to serve 367 months in prison in connection with the September 2022 shooting death of Michael Chang-Beom Lee, 43.
Inver Grove Heights Officer Dies After Medical Emergency
The Inver Grove Heights Police Department is mourning the loss of one of their own after an officer suffered a medical emergency on Friday, April 28 and died at the hospital on Sunday. According to a Facebook post by the department, Inver Grove Heights police and fire crews responded to the emergency on Friday, along with MHealth paramedics.
Man Dies in High-Speed Crash on I-35 in Lakeville
The State Patrol says just before 1:30 a.m., a 2022 Lincoln Aviator was traveling southbound on Interstate 35 towards 210th Street West when the driver struck a 2020 Toyota Corolla from behind. The driver of the Aviator didn’t stop at the scene of the crash and sped southbound, where it crashed into a semi-trailer at a high rate of speed.

The Minnesota State Patrol reports a 17-year-old boy is dead and two other people were injured after a three-vehicle crash in Vermillion Township on Saturday.
Dakota County Sheriff Not Seeking Re-election
Dakota County Sheriff Tim Leslie will not seek another term in the post, he announced Friday afternoon. Leslie says he plans to work part-time and spend time with grandkids, traveling, golfing and volunteering. He’s held the position since 2015. Leslie writes in the release that he encourages Chief Deputy Joe Leko to run for sheriff in the election this year. Leko is a 24-year department veteran.
White Bear Lake Woman Pleads Guilty in Relation to Man's 2021 Dakota Co. Killing
Under a plea agreement, a 23-year-old White Bear Lake woman will avoid a 2nd-degree murder charge in connection with the death of a man found tied and gagged with a rag in a bathroom in southern Dakota County last July. Ryann Elizabeth Smith, 23, was originally charged with 2nd-degree unintentional murder in the death of Chris Laftontaine, 55, at his home on July 2, 2021 in Greenvale Township, in southern Dakota County.
