Woman Dead in Inver Grove Heights Crash

A high-speed crash early Monday morning on Interstate 494 resulted in one fatality, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The collision occurred at 4:27 a.m. on I-494 near 5th Avenue, where a 2021 Chevrolet Malibu rear-ended a 2019 Volvo semi-tractor trailer traveling eastbound.

According to the West Saint Paul Police Department, officers had attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled, initiating a pursuit. The reason for the traffic stop is still unclear.

The driver of the Malibu, 39-year-old Elisa Rae Norton, of Hastings, sustained fatal injuries.

The semi’s driver, a 39-year-old man from Holmen, Wisconsin, was uninjured. He was wearing a seat belt, and no alcohol was involved.

The Interstate reopened to traffic around 7:30 a.m. after being closed due to the crash while officials investigated and cleared the debris.
