Burnsville Man Dies After Veering Off I-35E

A single-vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 35E in Burnsville resulted in a fatality Sunday morning.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the driver of a 2006 Volvo S60 was northbound on the interstate when he veered off the road and entered the right ditch.

The driver then struck a sign before coming to a stop on County Road 11 near the I-35E overpass.

Emergency responders including Burnsville police, fire and EMS arrived shortly after. The driver, 68-year-old Joseph Ferdinand Bluemke, of Burnsville, was the sole occupant of the vehicle and died at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that the vehicle’s airbags deployed during the crash, Bluemke was wearing a seat belt and alcohol was not involved. Road conditions were reported as dry at the time of the incident and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
