Burnsville police gave new details on the ongoing investigation into the Aug. 30 shooting at Red Oak Park that left five people injured. Authorities continue to search for suspects and urge the public to provide any information.

Police say that five people were shot at Red Oak Park in Burnsville Friday night. The incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. when officers responded to reports of multiple gunshots fired in the area.

Sources report two police officers and a paramedic were shot and killed this morning after a standoff suspect opened fire on officers inside a home around 5:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

A Burnsville man is charged with murder after admitting to killing his mother, dismembering her and disposing body parts in multiple locations. Troy Michael Mitteness, 56, of Burnsville, is charged with 2nd-degree murder in the death of his mother, Sandra Viola Mitteness. The charges come after detectives began investigating reports of mail theft in June, which led authorities to a murder confession.

A Farmington man faces charges after allegedly causing a high-speed crash that killed a 16-year-old girl and seriously injured a 15-year-old girl, both passengers in his vehicle.

A man is dead and one other is seriously injured after a head-on crash in Burnsville around 2:45 a.m. Saturday. Emergency crews were called to southbound Interstate 35 at Crystal Lake Road for the crash that closed all traffic on the interstate for hours.

Officers from multiple law enforcement agencies arrested a kidnapping suspect and found the female victim safe after a long-running tracking operation spanning more than a day and multiple metro locations. The suspect, Derrick Jonathan Fasig, 27, fled from a 2005 Chevy Tahoe after ditching it near the Shell station at 12340 Nicollet Ave. shortly after 4:30 p.m.

A large fire at an apartment building in Burnsville on Wednesday night left dozens of residents displaced, but no significant injuries were reported. Firefighters responded to the blaze around 10 p.m. and located heavy flames on the west side of the building, extending to all three floors.
