A large fire at an apartment building in Burnsville on Wednesday night left dozens of residents displaced, but no significant injuries were reported.

Firefighters responded to the blaze around 10 p.m. and located heavy flames on the west side of the building, extending to all three floors. Firefighters used the standpipe system to extinguish the fire which was placed under control about an hour later.

Buses were called to the scene to shelter residents and firefighters from the cold temperatures outside. A fourth alarm was called, bringing firefighters from at least four different departments to assist.

Paramedics checked out three residents from the building for injuries, but none were transported to the hospital.

After the fire, building maintenance workers were unable to turn the boilers back on, resulting in no heat for the entire complex. All residents were forced to find alternative shelter.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
