Dude, Where's My Car? Arrested at PD for Fleeing Night Before

A 27-year-old man was arrested after allegedly fleeing from officers twice, abandoning his car and later showing up at the police station to ask about the vehicle.

Saint Cloud police officers were monitoring a parking lot on May 18 at a Saint Cloud business after multiple thefts had taken place recently. The thefts involved the same two suspects and a black Chevy Equinox that the suspects used to flee the scene.

Officers observed the Equinox on May 18 enter the parking lot, a man exit the vehicle and enter the store. Officers attempted to stop the man from leaving the store, but he dropped the merchandise and jumped in the passenger window of the vehicle.

An officer driving in the parking lot attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver accelerated and fled at a high rate of speed. Officers briefly terminated the chase before locating the vehicle again nearby. Officers again tried to stop the vehicle. The driver didn’t accelerate but instead would not pull over the vehicle, and the pursuit was called off once again.

During the chase, the officer was able to visually confirm the driver was Ahmed Osman Mohamed, 27, of Saint Cloud. A short time late, officers received information that a vehicle matching the description was parked in a nearby lot. Officers found the vehicle unoccupied and it was towed to the Saint Cloud Police Department.

A day later, police say Mohamed went to the Saint Cloud Police Department to inquire about his vehicle. He was advised that the car was involved in a crime and he was taken into custody. Mohamed told officers that he drove his friend to the mall and fled because he was panicked and scared.

Mohamed faces a charge of fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle. Minnesota court records show Mohamed has previous convictions for theft and burglary.
