Duluth Police Arrest Suspect in Theft of Mankato Hockey Team’s Sticks
Duluth Police arrested a man on Monday after dozens of hockey sticks belonging to a Mankato Hockey Team were stolen.
Cole Allen Saice, 23, was taken into custody and faces pending charges of felony theft.
Officers responded on the morning of Saturday, Dec. 28 to the report in the 200 block of West 1st Street. Officers learned that around 30 sticks were stolen from the bus overnight, which were valued in excess of $15,000. The theft caused the team's Saturday night game against Anoka to be postponed.
Later that evening, at approximately 10:50 p.m., officers on patrol in the 100 block of East 3rd Street spotted a man carrying some of the stolen items. The individual, who claimed to have found the items behind the CHUM shelter, did not match the description of the suspected thief. He was arrested on an unrelated warrant, and officers recovered several pieces of the stolen equipment.
Further investigation led police to Saice, who was apprehended two days later. The combined efforts of Duluth Police's Patrol and Investigations Divisions resulted in the recovery of most of the stolen hockey sticks.
Saice remains in custody in the St. Louis County Jail, pending formal charges.
