Eagan Police Arrest Man After Long-Running Standoff
EAGAN—Police arrested a man Sunday night after a long-running standoff near Emerald Ln. & Diamond Dr., with a wide perimeter and the surrounding neighborhood blocked off for much of the day.
The incident started before noon and stretched until 9:30 p.m., when officers said that they had the male suspect “proned out in the front yard” and they were moving in for an arrest. They updated moments later that they had the man in custody.
An armored vehicle had been used to broadcast announcements on a loudspeaker for the male to exit, but officers received limited response throughout the day.
We do not yet have confirmation on what started the incident, but initial information indicates the suspect violated a previous order for protection and broke into the house before barricading himself inside.
Jail booking records show the suspect—Alexander Christopher Hummel, 33 —is being held on probable cause 1st-degree burglary, harassment-violation of a restraining order and fleeing police.
The “BearCat'“ armored vehicle was brought on scene with a ram in the front and two drones were used by officers to monitor the situation from the air. After the man was detained, the SWAT team was working to clear the home and detached garage.
There were no apparent injuries in the incident.
Multiple agencies assisted Eagan at the scene, including Burnsville, State Patrol, Lakeville, Bloomington and others.
Officers had completed their searches of the residence and garage and the scene was being cleared beginning around 10:30 p.m.
