St. Paul firefighters responded to two structure fires within the city in the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 4. Firefighters were dispatched to the first structure fire just before 1:30 a.m. A garage fire was reported on the 500 block of Thomas Ave. in the Frogtown neighborhood.

Chief 2 arrived on the fire and reported they had a fully involved two-car garage and had multiple exposures nearby that were also catching on fire. Chief 2 immediately added a full fire assignment and requested the balance, bringing a total of 8 fire trucks to battle the fire. Crews were able to extinguish the fire around 2:15 a.m. Arson investigators were requested due to the number of structures that had been damaged.

Shortly after 6:15 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to another structure fire on the 1300 block of Edgerton St. in the Payne-Phalen neighborhood. Fire crews arrived and found a working fire inside the residence. Crews were able to knock the fire down quickly, but crews remained on scene past 8:00 a.m. to open walls and pull ceilings to check for extension into the attic space.

No injuries were reported as a result of either fire. The causes of the fires remain under investigation.
