Kansas Man on Lam Since Guilty Verdicts Arrested After Woodbury Standoff
A Kansas man found guilty earlier this month of five felonies including rape and aggravated kidnapping was arrested Friday in Woodbury, Minn. with help from the US Marshals and a Washington County SWAT team after he barricaded himself inside a home.
Officers gathered information that the suspect was at a residence in Woodbury on Beechwood Lane on Friday morning and Woodbury police were requested to assist US Marshals.
When officers arrived, they learned the suspect, Pernell Adam Mack, barricaded himself in the basement of the residence and was refusing to come out, according to initial law enforcement dispatch audio reviewed by MN CRIME.
Officers evacuated the residence and requested a negotiator and SWAT team to respond as the man refused to exit. A “shelter-in-place” alert was sent out to neighboring homes, and the suspect was eventually taken into custody.

Mack, 38, of Topeka, had been out on $100,000 bond and was convicted by a jury in Shawnee County District Court on May 12, the third day of his trial. The jury handed down guilty verdicts on five felonies: rape, aggravated criminal sodomy, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary, KSNT reported.
But according to online court records, Mack didn’t show up for the proceedings on day two or three of the trial.
After the jury returned its verdicts, the judge revoked Mack’s bond and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Mack’s charges stemmed from an incident that occurred on April 16, 2003, when police in Topeka, Kansas took a report from a women who said she came home around 3:40 a.m. and was put in a choke hold. She also reported that one suspect held her at gunpoint while another stole cash and other items. She was then struck over the head with a pistol and the two suspects sexually assaulted her.
The victim in the 2003 robbery and assault was taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of her injuries. Deputies collected DNA evidence at the scene, but detectives were unable to find a DNA match until 2020 when the sheriff’s office collected a DNA sample from Mack and were able to confirm the match.
Mack has not been sentenced yet for the crimes, and it’s unknown if he will face any additional charges stemming from the Woodbury incident.
Mack faces up to 54 years in prison on the most serious charge.
