Man Charged in Brooklyn Center Stabbing Death

A New Hope man is charged with 2nd-degree murder after allegedly stabbing a man in the parking lot of a Brooklyn Center apartment building earlier this week, killing him.

Police were called to the apartment complex at 4570 58th Ave. N. in Brooklyn Center around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday for a report of two men fighting. Police arrived and located the victim, Antonio Levar Moore, 37, unconscious and with a stab wound to his abdomen.

Paramedics transported Moore to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police spoke to Moore’s sister, who said that her child’s father, Demetrius Lamar Harris, 28, had come over to her apartment that evening. She said they were no longer romantically involved but she was cordial with Harris.

She told police that she received a phone call from another man, which upset Harris, and he allegedly began yelling, swearing and punching her in the face. She told Harris to leave her apartment, but he refused. She called Moore over to her apartment to help get Harris to leave, the court documents allege.

When Moore arrived, he called his sister, who came out of the apartment to meet him in the parking lot. At some point, Harris came outside and was confronted by Moore about hitting his sister. Moore and Harris then began physically fighting, with Moore injured and falling to the ground.

Harris then fled on foot, and a wide perimeter search ensued, including the use of a State Patrol helicopter. Officers eventually located Harris in a nearby apartment building laundry room and took him into custody. Harris is being held in jail on $500,000 bail and is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Friday afternoon.

According to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, Moore was stabbed in the abdomen, striking an artery. The manner of death was ruled a homicide.

According to court records, Harris has several previous convictions for misdemeanor-level theft.
