A man is dead after being attacked by four dogs in Brooklyn Center Thursday afternoon.

Police say they responded to a residence on the 5700 block of Halifax Avenue North where they found four dogs attacking 22-year-old Dezmond Ray Thomas Trawick in the backyard. Police say they deployed a “less-lethal” round which struck at least one of the dogs, resulting in all of the dogs returning to the residence.

Officers brought Trawick to safety and began rendering first aid. Police say the victim had most of his clothing ripped off and suffered extensive bite injuries on a large area of his body. The victim was intubated by paramedics at the scene and brought to North Memorial Medical Center while Trawick was pronounced dead while in surgery.

Police say the dogs were transported to Pets Under Police Security (PUPS) where they are being quarantined before an evaluation. PUPS is a facility used by eight Hennepin County Police agencies where pets are taken who are lost or impounded.
