18-year-old Claims Self-Defense in Minneapolis Fatal Shooting
An 18-year-old faces a murder charge after allegedly shooting a man in the chest during an argument at a residence in Minneapolis earlier this month.
Jackson Gregory Robertson, 18, faces one charge of 2nd-degree murder and one charge of carrying a pistol without a permit. Court documents do not list an address for Robertson. According to those documents, Robertson says the shooting was in self-defense.
Police were called to the 1500 block of Park Ave. on April 3, 2023, around 5:30 p.m. on a report of a shooting. Officers arrived and located an adult male victim lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his chest. CPR was given by bystanders and emergency personnel. The victim, Antone Rico Anderson 34, was transported to Hennepin Healthcare, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators spoke with witnesses from inside the residence shortly after the shooting.
Anderson’s girlfriend said that Robertson and her boyfriend had gotten into an argument. Robertson threatened to shoot Anderson during the argument and he allegedly told the victim to “meet him outside.” Anderson then exited the residence, at which point the victim’s girlfriend heard a “pop,” but did not see the shooting. The victim reportedly had a knife in his possession when he left the residence, but it’s unclear where it was found.
Officers say video and audio surveillance footage from a Metro Transit bus showed Robertson on his phone talking about the shooting. Robertson admitted to investigators that he shot the victim, but claimed it was in self-defense. He does not have a valid permit to carry.
Robertson denied having the firearm that was used in the shooting and couldn’t tell officers where it was. He’s being held in the Hennepin County Jail before his first appearance in court Friday, April 14. He faces up to 40 years in prison.
