A man was found dead inside a Saint Louis Park home after a fire late Tuesday night.
Firefighters responded to the 7400 block of North Street just before midnight and arrived to find heavy flames coming from the rear of the house. The fire escalated to a second alarm, prompting additional resources from Hopkins.
Crews quickly worked to contain the blaze, bringing it under control in less than 30 minutes. Once inside, they discovered a deceased man.
Officials have not identified the victim but said he was 63 years old. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will confirm the cause and manner of death.
Authorities said there was no immediate indication of suspicious circumstances, but the Hennepin County Crime Lab and State Fire Marshal’s Office are assisting in the investigation. The fire is believed to have started in the attic, though the exact cause remains under investigation.
After the initial response, the home was boarded up and crews left the scene. They later returned to extinguish a remaining hot spot. It’s still unclear whether the home had working smoke detectors, which officials said will be part of their investigation.
No one else was inside the house at the time and the Saint Louis Park Fire Department continues to work with the State Fire Marshal to determine what led up to the blaze.
