A Hennepin County jury convicted Walker in September on charges of second-degree intentional murder and prohibited possession of a firearm.

The fatal shooting occurred around 1:53 a.m. during a birthday gathering in the garage of a residence on the 9500 block of Thomas Avenue North. Witnesses reported that Crenshaw was sitting at a card table, freestyle rapping, when Walker unexpectedly pulled out a black-and-purple handgun and shot him in the chest without provocation. Crenshaw was transported to Unity Hospital in Fridley, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators recovered a 9mm cartridge casing at the scene and later located Walker inside a nearby apartment building. When officers attempted to arrest him, Walker fled into an apartment and tried to jump from a third-floor balcony before being taken into custody.

Walker’s criminal history includes multiple felony convictions for burglary, robbery, and firearm possession, making him ineligible to possess a gun. He was on parole at the time of the shooting. Officers discovered a handwritten note on Walker at the time of his arrest, reading in part, “Tell JoJo that I sold the gun that had the body on it.” Walker tried to swallow the note when officers attempted to read it.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty described the shooting as “a callous act of unprovoked violence.” She added, “While a long sentence will not bring Mr. Crenshaw back to his family and friends, it is appropriate and necessary to bring accountability to Mr. Walker and to protect our community.”
