St. Paul police are investigating the city’s ninth homicide of the year after a man was found shot to death inside the bathroom of a Payne-Phalen neighborhood auto body shop Tuesday afternoon.

Police were called just after 3:35 p.m., March 30, for the report of gunshots being fired inside of the business on the 1300 block of Arcade St. Officers arrived and found the man inside the bathroom with multiple gunshot wounds. He died at the scene and has not yet been identified.

According to St. Paul Police Department spokesman Steve Linders, investigators do not believe the shooting to be a random incident, but said they did not know if the victim was a customer of the business or did he release any suspect information.

Dispatch audio indicated a man was seen following the victim into the business before the shots were heard and he was seen fleeing on foot.

Linder said there hadn’t been any previous calls for service of significance at the business in the recent past.

UPDATE: Authorities identified the victim Wednesday as Mohamed Jama Samatar, 36, of St. Paul. No arrests have been made.
