Saint Paul Firefighters Battle 2-Alarm Blaze in Hamline-Midway

Saint Paul firefighters battled a difficult fire in a two-story building for several hours on Sunday evening. Firefighters were called to the scene around 6:30 p.m. after multiple reports of flames coming from the building.

When firefighters arrived near Snelling Avenue North and Van Buren Avenue in the Hamline-Midway neighborhood, they saw heavy flames and smoke coming from the rear of the structure.

Firefighters deployed hoselines and used ladder trucks in an attempt to knock down the blaze. Crews had difficulty accessing the fire initially, as much of the building was boarded up. Due to the size of the fire, a second alarm was called, bringing additional firefighters and apparatus to the scene.

Firefighters reported that most of the fire was extinguished by 7:45 p.m., but crews remained on scene until nearly 11:00 p.m. checking for hotspots and investigating the fire.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and remains under investigation by the Saint Paul Fire Department.

No injuries were reported.
