SCANNER: Man Shoots Self During Rochester Traffic Stop

A man died of his injuries after reportedly shooting himself during a traffic stop in the Miracle Mile strip mall parking lot in Rochester, Minn., early Wednesday, May 5. The truck driver was stopped for a routine inspection when he refused to give a trooper his identification and pulled a gun, authorities said.

The initial stop happened around 6:45 a.m. in the strip mall parking lot just east of Hwy. 52. No troopers or Rochester police officers fired their weapons during the incident, and the man died of his injuries after being transported to a local hospital.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and Rochester police are investigating the incident and the man who died has not yet been identified. A section of the parking lot remained taped off into the late morning Wednesday as authorities processed the scene.
