Snowmobiler Killed in Crash With Ambulance in Northern Minnesota

A 61-year-old snowmobiler was killed in a crash with an ambulance rig Saturday afternoon in northern St. Louis County, authorities have confirmed.

The crash happened just after 3:30 p.m. on Ash River Trail, about a half mile east of Highway 53.

Jeffrey Joe Blom, of Thief River Falls, was driving a snowmobile northbound on the Arrowhead snowmobile trail, which is around 30 miles southeast of International Falls. Blom was attempting to cross over the roadway of Ash River Trail and continue onto the snowmobile route, the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office said.

The ambulance was eastbound on Ash River Trail when it collided with the snowmobiler, who was declared deceased at the scene after lifesaving efforts. No one inside the ambulance was injured.

Assisting the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office were Kabetogama First Responders, International Falls Ambulance, Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota DNR and the US Forest Service.
