2 Dead, 1 Critical After Minneapolis Encampment Shooting

Police are investigating a deadly shooting that killed two men and left a woman critically injured Sunday afternoon at a homeless encampment.

Officers from the Third Precinct responded to the scene around 2:21 p.m., locating the victims along the railroad tracks between Hiawatha and Snelling Avenues.

Despite immediate medical aid provided by officers, both men died at the scene. The woman remains in critical condition.

This is the second triple shooting at a homeless encampment in Minneapolis in the past two days.

Three adult men were initially detained but have since been cleared and released. Investigators have not ruled out a potential connection between this shooting and the October 26 triple shooting at a separate encampment.

MPD forensic scientists processed the scene, collecting evidence. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the names of the deceased along with their causes and manners of death.

No arrests have been made at this time.

“The cold-blooded killing of three people inside the tent of an encampment is outrageous,” said Police Chief Brian O’Hara. “All human life matters, and encampments are not safe. MPD continues to address crime-related issues associated with homeless encampments while the city offers resources. To help end this cycle of violence, exacerbated by narcotics and mental health issues, it is crucial that residents of these encampments accept the resources available.”
