2 Juveniles Dead after Crashing Vehicle During High-Speed Pursuit

Two juveniles are dead and three others are injured after crashing their vehicle during a high-speed chase in northeast Minneapolis early Thursday morning.

Police say the vehicle was taken in an armed carjacking about eight hours earlier.

Robbinsdale police spotted a vehicle matching the description of the carjacked vehicle near County Road 81 & Abbott Avenue and initiated a pursuit. Dispatch audio obtained by MN CRIME revealed the vehicle had been traveling at speeds in excess of 90 MPH before crashing near Lowry Avenue Northeast & Hayes Street.

Officers reported that the vehicle had split in half and that at least two people were ejected. Multiple ambulances were immediately requested to the scene. One individual was pronounced deceased at the scene and four others were transported to the hospital. One later succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, while three others suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The Hennepin County Crime Lab and Minnesota State Patrol are assisting with the crash investigation.
